What happens to a fur coat that spends the summer in the wardrobe
A wardrobe is not cold storage. In summer, heat dries out the pelt, humidity damages it and moths do the rest.
Heat
In summer, the inside of a house easily goes above 25 degrees. In the heat, the pelt loses its natural oils and dries out.
Humidity
A closed wardrobe builds up humidity, and humidity damages the pelt.
Moths
They do the most damage and are the hardest to spot until it is too late. At a controlled cold temperature, moths do not survive.
What we do in cold storage
From 1 May to 15 November we keep garments in a state-of-the-art storage chamber, with high-purity ozone and a zero-waste system: controlled temperature and humidity, ventilation, special hangers and enough space so that nothing gets crushed. Before it goes in, each garment is cleaned and its lining and buttons are checked.
